  • What is the Dank Collection?
The Dank Collection is a limited release of a conceptual fragrances that incorporate a Cannabis strain terpene profile using Cannabis Sativa (Hemp) extract/essential oil. The fragrances, based on scent memories of a time and place, are uplifting olfactory snapshots into the perfumer’s past positive experiences. Hemp essential oil contains hundreds of molecules that make up the Cannabis plant which produces the grassy earthy notes the plant is famous for. In addition the extract contains high concentrations of monoterpenes and sesquiterpenes . Cannabis essential oil and terpenes have been associated with a positive mood and relaxation.
  • Does your perfume contain CBD or THC?
No, we use steam distilled Cannabis (Hemp) essential oil imported from Italy. Our supplier uses GC/MS analysis to ensure there is no THC or CBD present. The plants are specifically bred to produce high amounts of aromatic terpenes for aromatherapy and perfumery. The oil is extracted from top buds and leaves to capture the largest amounts of terpenes. The oil smells green, herbal and terpy.
  • Will all of your future perfumes be Cannabis themed?
No, the Dank Collection is just one of many fragrance lines we plan to produce. There is, however, one more scent that is currently in the works for the collection which is based on a very special memory.
  • Are your ingredients inferior to designer brands?
One of the biggest open secrets in the industry is that designers and brands don’t actually make their perfumes. Your favorite designer may know how to make a really nice handbag, but they know nothing about perfumery. These designers and brands hire the industry's unsung artists; perfumers, who work primarily for several international scent-making corporations. The biggest players include, Givaudan, IFF, Firmenich, Symrise and Taskago. These corporations also create the vast majority of synthetic and natural raw materials used in perfumery. We source our raw materials from these same companies. In addition to the big players, we also source harder to find natural materials from professional vendors who specialize in natural materials. We only use the highest quality ingredients to make our perfumes.
  • Do you make copy fragrances?
No, we no dot make dupe, copy or "inspired by" fragrances, that is the opposite of our ethos. Every creation we make is 100% original and 100% made in house by MAISON D'AUDE Founder/Perfumer Lawrence Gallegos. While there’s a demand for imposter fragrances, we pride ourselves on creating high quality original scents.
  • Do you use synthetic or natural ingredients?
Both. Perfumers have been formulating with both synthetic and natural materials since the 19th century. Recently, there has been a lot of debate between synthetic vs natural ingredients. We love using natural ingredients! Natural materials are "full bodied" and bring depth to compositions. We also believe it is possible to utilize both natural and synthetic ingredients to produce Earth friendly, ethical, safe fragrances. Some brands market themselves as being “clean” because they only use natural materials. With few exceptions this is just a marketing tactic. While it is possible to safely create naturally derived fragrances, the fact is, natural does not always equal safer or better for the environment. Ironically, the majority of materials that have been banned or restricted by IFRA are natural ingredients. This is due to the hundreds of molecules that make up the material's aroma, which increases the potential of allergenic risks. One advantages of synthetics is that they can be used to recreate a natural smell while leaving out the molecules that cause allergic reactions. Synthetic aroma chemicals can be an environmentally friendly alternative to many natural ingredients. Safe synthetic ingredients help to prevent the over-farming of natural ingredients at risk of extinction due to their demand for use in perfumery. Synthetics have also virtually replaced the need to use animal products such as musk. Some Synthetics recreate the smell of natural ingredients when the natural raw materials are not available or cannot be extracted into an essential oil. Most fruit scents, for example, could not be created without the use of synthetics.
  • How do I know your perfumes are safe?
We do not use any natural or synthetic material we think is not safe including parabens, sulfates, phthalates or propylene glycol . Further, we adhere to the safety guidance of The International Fragrance Association Standards (IFRA). IFRA was created by the perfume industry to ensure our products are safe for use. These standards are updated periodically to keep up with scientific research. Not all independent perfumers adhere to these standards, some purposely create perfumes that far exceed IFRA safety standards. While we respect other perfumer’s artistic choices, we care about our customers' safety and choose to formulate according to IFRA safety standards.
  • Do you test on animals?
No way! We have plenty of humans that we use to test our products on before being released to the public.
  • Are your products Vegan?
We do not use any animal derived ingredients in our products. If there is a reference to a note such as "leather, "musk","Civet", it refers to the scent and will be synthetically derived.
  • Do you make fragrances for Men or Women?
We make scents for everyone. There are no hard rules in perfumery. We encourage people to wear what they like. However, San Fernando Valley OG Pool Party would be considered "unisex" by many as it's a rather clean refreshing scent that doesn't get too dark and dirty or too sweet and fruity, a real crowd pleaser. Maui Waui Sunset, on the other hand, leans more feminine due to the sweet vanilla, pineapple, coconut, tropical fruits and floral notes. We've found many men enjoy this scent, especially when layered with SFV OG Pool Party.
